Custom Weapons and Armor System

Every piece covers all 8 equipment slots: helm, chest, gloves, arms, legs, boots, shield, and weapon (weapons are pulled from a pool of 122 different weapon types, including Gargoyle-race-locked weapons like the Gargish Katana and Glass Sword, unlocked for every race on this shard — only wands and gathering tools are excluded as non-combat).

How a drop is generated

Each item independently rolls:

  1. A skill affinity — pulled from all 55 UO skills (Swordsmanship, Magery, Necromancy, Stealth, etc.), which drives the item's bonus and its name.

  2. A tier, weighted:

    • +5 "Novice" — 65% of drops

    • +10 "Swift" — 25% of drops

    • +20 "Master" — 10% of drops

  3. Stat bonuses scaled to tier — for armor, roughly +3 to +8 per stat (Str/Dex/Int) at Novice tier, scaling up to +20–28 physical resist and proportionally higher stat/HP/mana/stamina bonuses at Master tier, plus Luck and HP/mana regen.

  4. Resistances across all five damage types, scaled the same way (e.g. armor resist bonuses roughly double from Novice to Master tier).

  5. A hue from a tier-appropriate color palette, and an auto-generated name combining slot, tier, and the rolled skill's associated "role" (Archer, Swordsman, Mage, Necromancer, Paladin, Samurai, Ninja, and so on for all 55 skills).

Naming examples, straight from the system:

  • +5: Forgotten Helm of the Novice Archer

  • +10: Swift Chestplate of the Mage

  • +20: Ancient Greaves of the Master Necromancer

Older pre-existing item sets on the shard (Dragon/Fire/Earth/Water/Air elemental armor, the Knight's set, Sorcerer's set, Lunar Guardian and Wolfsbane sets, and various custom shields/robes) were folded into this same randomization system — they kept their unique looks and graphics, but now roll stats the same way as everything else in the Forgotten line, instead of having fixed stats.

Unique named weapons

A handful of one-off legendary weapons exist outside the randomized system, each with its own fixed identity and special ability:

  • Widow Maker — a two-handed Giant Battle Axe. Primary ability Concussion Blow, secondary Whirlwind Attack.

  • War Tomahawk — a two-handed thrown weapon with a 20% headshot chance on hit (bonus 50–80 physical damage plus a brief enemy freeze), and like all thrown weapons it flies back to your hand after each throw.

  • Runic Sword of the Damned — a Swordsmanship weapon with Crushing Blow and Shadow Strike abilities, which also rolls the same random skill-bonus tier as the rest of the Forgotten loot line.

Weapon Leveling — making a weapon grow with you

Separately from the randomized drops, any eligible weapon can be turned into a leveling weapon using a Weapon Leveling Deed. Double-click the deed, target a weapon in your pack or equipped, and it gains the ability to level up.

From that point on, the weapon earns XP automatically every time you help kill a creature while it's equipped — XP is based on the creature's fame/skill value, shared fairly if you're in a party, and reduced somewhat by "leech" effects. Leveling up plays a sound/visual effect and awards points every 10 levels (the point award doubles every 10 levels), up to a default max level of 100. Use [wlvl on the weapon any time to check its current level and XP progress.
